Amazon Expands Kuiper Satellite Internet to Vietnam in Challenge to Musk’s Starlink
Amazon is accelerating its space-based broadband ambitions with a $570 million infrastructure push into Vietnam. The tech giant plans to deploy up to six ground stations and establish terminal manufacturing in Bac Ninh province as part of Project Kuiper's global rollout.
The Vietnamese government approved Amazon's five-year pilot program following high-level talks with company executives. This sets the stage for direct competition with SpaceX's Starlink, which received similar operational clearance in the Southeast Asian market.
Project Kuiper aims to deliver high-speed internet via low Earth orbit satellites, particularly targeting Vietnam's remote islands and underserved regions. Amazon has formed a local entity, Amazon Kuiper Vietnam, to oversee service deployment for consumer, business, and government users.
